Jesus meets Peter the Outspoken Fisherman

‘I’m goin’ fishin’.’ For many men, goin’ fishin’ is as exciting as it gets. If only coming back from fishing was as exciting as going! My fishing trips don’t usually equal the ‘going fishing’ experience. I have never had to put fish back because I was over the bag limit. I could have purchased a lot more fish than I have ever caught with the money I have spent on bait and lures, let alone rods, tackle and boat fuel. Having said that, I don’t regret any of my fishing trips and I hope to have many more exciting goin’ fishin’ experiences, even in the knowledge that my catch will stay consistent and remain low.

Martha was the type of lady who most other ladies would have really enjoyed knowing as their friend. Possibly, a small number would have stayed clear of
her because she was direct and was not afraid to say what was on her mind.
Martha got things done. She seemed to be always baking and having people drop into her house. The type of lady who loved having a batch of scones in the
oven and meeting someone and inviting them over and serving up some fresh scones and a nice cuppa. Or when she would have been aware of someone in the
neighbourhood who was in need, she would pop in with a meal and see how she could help out.

Jesus meets Matthew the Party Goer

When Jesus met Matthew, there was no way to expect that this non-religious, party-going, questionable businessman would one day be an apostle of Jesus Christ. Matthew mixed with the non-conformists. At night, he hung out on the seedy side of town. You didn’t find Matthew at the synagogue. He didn’t get dinner invites to the Rabbi’s house. It is very possible he was raised in a strict, religious environment, but somewhere he chose a different path. When Matthew chose to be a tax collector, he severed all ties with respectability. In the eyes of the respectable folk, he was an outcast. He was labelled with the sinners, the ones who a respectable businessman would avoid, by walking on the other side of the street. ...Read More

Jesus’ encounter and conversation with a man by the name of Nicodemus would, without a doubt, be one of the most significant meetings Jesus had during His short life on earth. The words that Jesus spoke to Nicodemus have influenced the lives of countless millions of people for over twenty centuries. ...Read More
Who is Jesus of Nazareth?

The greatest debate that raged during Jesus' thirty-three years on earth was, 'Who is this man from Nazareth?' Many reasoned, 'Is He none other than the son of Joseph the carpenter?' Some would question, 'Do you really believe that story of Mary being a virgin until after Jesus was born?' 'Sounds like a cover-up to me', another would say. Still others said Jesus was John the Baptist who had come back from the dead, or Elijah or even Jeremiah. ...Read More

As we look at this significant event of Jesus' temptation, it is full of lessons for each of us. Throughout our lives, and even on a daily basis, we are tempted with many things; whether material things we desire to have, the food we eat, financial security, or even the love of a specific person. These are the fundamental things that can control the decisions we make and the relationships we have with one another. ...Read More

From age twelve to thirty, Jesus worked in Nazareth as a carpenter with Joseph, His father. His public ministry began after His baptism. From there He visited Jerusalem and then returned to Nazareth via Samaria. It was during that journey that He spoke to the woman at the well about living water. It was the custom of Jesus to go to the synagogue every Saturday. On this particular Sabbath in His home town, it was His turn to read from the Scriptures. The Jewish Scriptures are what we call the Old Testament in our Bibles. ...Read More

A study of the Bible clearly portrays Jesus as God the Son, the Son of God, and also the Son of Man. Although every one of these aspects is vitally important, our focus for this article will be on the dimension of the Son of Man, and the point in history when God became flesh and lived amongst us. ...Read More

Between twelve and thirty years of age, Jesus worked with his father Joseph, as a carpenter in the family business. During this time, the Bible says Jesus increased in stature and wisdom and in favour with God and man. Interestingly, within three short years a dramatic change took place. He became despised and rejected by men. One thing stayed consistent. He continued to find favour with God. He kept doing the works and will of God, even to Gethsemane. There, in deep agony of spirit He sweated drops of blood as He cried out, 'Not My will but Your will be done'. Luke 22:42. ...Read More
Sight to the Blind

Blindness, for a person with excellent vision, is impossible to comprehend. How can we imagine being locked up to darkness? Without outside intervention, blindness is being destined to a life of stumbling and falling. For a person born blind, the image of the unseen would have little meaning. No doubt the senses, like touch, hearing and smell, would be highly tuned. I have a cousin who is blind, who is so helped by her seeing-eye dog and the use of Braille that she can do almost anything a person with complete sight can. But nothing can replace the privilege of seeing. ...Read More
